Privacy Policy
At OathBuddy, we value your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app or website.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following information:
- Account Information: When you sign up using Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, or email and password, we collect your name (if provided) and email address. Apple Sign-In users may choose to hide their email address.
- Profile Information: To personalize your study plan, we ask for your state of residence (some civics answers are state-specific), when you filed or plan to file your N-400 (this determines which official question pool you study), and, optionally, your interview date (used for your countdown and daily plan).
- Study Progress: We store your lesson and quiz activity — which questions you have answered, whether your answers were judged correct, your mastery per question, streaks, mock interview scores, and your daily plans. For voice practice, the transcribed text of your spoken answers is saved as part of this study history so the app can track your progress and review sessions with you.
- Voice Recordings: When you answer a question out loud, your recording is sent through our server to OpenAI, where it is transcribed (Whisper) and your answer is evaluated (GPT). We do not keep the audio recording itself after it has been processed. Libby's voice is pre-generated audio — no data about you is sent to a voice-generation service.
- Subscription Information: If you subscribe to OathBuddy Pro, payment is handled by Apple through in-app purchase. We do not collect or store your payment card details.
- Usage Analytics: We collect usage events (for example, which screens you visit and features you use) to understand how the app is used and improve it. This data is associated with your account, along with basic profile attributes like your state of residence and question-pool group. You can turn analytics off at any time in the app's settings.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain the OathBuddy service, including building your daily study plan and tracking your progress.
- Transcribe and evaluate your spoken practice answers.
- Authenticate your account and manage your subscription.
- Send you updates regarding the app (you can opt out at any time).
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
3. Data Storage & Security
Your account, profile, and study data are stored with Supabase, our backend and database provider, and are protected by access controls so that only your account can read your data. We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information against unauthorized access or disclosure. However, no internet transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to provide and improve OathBuddy. We share with each service only what it needs to do its job:
- Supabase: Hosts our backend — authentication, database (your account, profile, and study progress), and the audio files for Libby's voice.
- OpenAI: When you practice out loud, your voice recording is sent to OpenAI via our server for transcription and answer evaluation. Requests are made from our server — your device never talks to OpenAI directly, and we do not send your name or email with them. OpenAI's handling of this data is governed by their Privacy Policy.
- Apple & RevenueCat: Subscription payments are processed by the Apple App Store. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status. We do not have access to your full payment information.
- PostHog: Our analytics provider (see "Usage Analytics" above). You can opt out in the app's settings.
- Loops: We use third-party email providers (such as Loops.so) to manage our email communications, including the waitlist.
- Authentication: Google Sign-In and Apple Sign-In are available for account authentication. Their use of your data is governed by their respective privacy policies.
5. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request information about the personal data we hold about you.
- Deletion: Delete your account and its data directly in the app (Profile → Delete Account), or contact us to request deletion of your personal data (for example, removal from the waitlist).
- Analytics Opt-Out: Turn off usage analytics in the app's settings.
- Unsubscribe: Opt out of marketing emails at any time via the unsubscribe link in our emails.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@oathbuddy.com.
